# Preface December 14, 2025 This week was weird. It felt completely non-productive but incredibly productive all at once. Case-in-point, one of my visual novel partners is graduating from college and invited the team to their art show. It was in a city I'd never been to, and I got turned around a couple of times but I got there. Then I ended up writing a ton of words. Mostly non-fiction. So I guess I have a lot to say all of a sudden. Or maybe I'm finding my voice? I'm not going to take too much time to speculate on that, because I've got updates! # Part 1: Non-Fiction I wrote some large chunks this week, in spite of me feeling like I didn't get enough rest. ## Notebooks Word count: 758 I ended up looking at an old notebook from 2016. Much of last week had me putting postcards and stickers in notebooks, then figuring out where better places for the postcards would be. It was a helluva process. And it got me thinking about the Seattle trip I took that began that notebook. So that ended up being its own non-fiction piece. ## Films Word count: 1,062 *Anna and the Apocalypse* is quite possibly my overall favorite holiday movie. And I've been talking about that with my friend Lee a couple of times. What spurred that on was when I listened to the record. It's a little warped, so hearing *Human Voice* gave it a rather creepy tone -- which is funny because it's already a haunting song. Naturally, I wrote about it. And I have a lot to say about this emotional film. ## Bedframe Word count: 530 I tried to switch out a mattress and bed frame on Thursday, then wrote about it once I realized I had two different sizes. So I had to deal with that. But I powered my Crosley turntable and played some records while I did this. It's one of the few days that I was singularly focused on one thing. It gave me a hell of a workout, both mentally and physically. # Part 2: Fiction ## Flash Fiction Friday 335 "Out of Orbit" Titled: *Redwood Creatures* Date: December 12th Synopsis: Johnny reads a book in order to figure out what took his friends on a mission going horribly wrong. [Tumblr](https://www.tumblr.com/acewriter/802750205324886016/redwood-creatures?source=share) [Substack](https://open.substack.com/pub/aroacephoto/p/redwoods-creatures?r=2getsk&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true) Notes: I was able to write a continuation of a scene started a couple of weeks back. See [[Writer Blog 3#Flash Fiction Friday]] for that link. Also, worthy of note: I'm stacking my fiction and (eventually) non-fiction for Fridays in future. So you won't immediately see the content for Substack. It's queued up. Word count: 628 ## Project Moonshadow Word count: 267 Synopsis: Yellow Line, part 1. Isaac lands in front of the Fae Ferry Building of the Fae Area. Because he has traveled through a light-tunnel, he does not feel well. Just as his newfound cat Dinkus tries to console him, bolts of lightning are shot through his back. He turns around to face his foe. Is this yet-another-new-enemy, or someone from a previous chapter? Notes: In a surprise turn of events, I had the tired audacity to write a couple hundred words for the last huge chunk of this short story. It's only the beginning of the chapter, and I'm still figuring out character motivations. This was late in the afternoon, right as I was about to tally up the word count for the week. Which makes all this planning and over-think of this story start to feel worth it. ## Project Castro I don't really have a word count for this week. That's because I've been putting together a bunch of notes to nearly finish the rest of my script. I had two scenes that I have stitched together, since they occur at the same time. My artist and I are finishing other projects up (see the art show above) so that we can put more focus onto the art for this visual novel. I hope to share some of this art at some point. # Conclusion Word count: 3,245 Not much to tie together. Mentally it's been sluggish. But I managed to hammer out a smooth 3,245 words this week. I even noted to a writer friend of mine that the words keep finding themselves onto the page. I don't really know how or understand it. But I think this has finally become the outlet I've always wanted this to be. Thanks for reading, and I'll see you next week! The below table is mostly for myself. But if you, like me, enjoy seeing numbers go up in any capacity, then this may be for you as well. It's meant to be an encouragement. | Word Type | Word Counts | November Totals | | --------------------- | ----------- | --------------- | | Project Castro | 277+0 | 277 | | Project Moonshadow | 1,272+267 | 1,539 | | Flash Fiction Fridays | 441+628 | 1,069 | | Non-Fiction | 1,092+2,350 | 3,442 | | Grand Total | | 6,327 |
